Rainbow Six Siege’s new DLC introduces two Yakuza characters to the multiplayer squad shooter. Kind of.
Available in Rainbow Six Siege on May 24, the content lets you dress up as the tough dad Kazuma Kiryu and the tough Tokyo cop Kaoru Sayama from the Yakuza series. Both wield modified weapons, which might seem a little odd because – the non-canon Yakuza: Dead Souls aside – Kiryu prefers to use his fists.
The reason for this discrepancy is that you don’t actually play as the characters. Instead, you apply their outfits to Echo and Hibana, respectively. So you can happily shoot people in the face, even if Kiryu were to kick that assault rifle out of your hands.
We won’t know exactly how much the outfits will cost until they launch, but based on past DLC outfits, you can expect to pay $19.99 for both costumes, or about $35 for both.
Yes, that’s a bit pricey for a single costume, especially if that doesn’t really turn you into the character. But if you’re a hardcore fan of Sega’s long-running open-world action-adventure and you’ve played the real Yakuza game, it might be worth taking the plunge.
This is not the first time Kiryu has appeared in a random game. Last year we were able to put him in a ball and put him to the test in Super Monkey Ball Mania.
The trailer, which you can watch above, also teases the arrival of another costume; a seemingly based on hyperactive eccentric and sometimes ally Goro Majima. There is no release date for this third costume yet, but we expect it to arrive fairly soon.
