Trump has wasted half a billion on 10,000 ventilators that will not fall until September 2022 – Raw Story

A new report from the U.S. House Committee on Monitoring and Reform has found that the Trump administration has repeatedly delayed the Obama-era order from health-technology company Philips for 10,000 ventilators, wasting half a billion dollars on even-coming machines. Until September 2022.

According to the report, in 2014, the Obama administration signed an agreement to add 10,000 ventilators to national storage by June 2019. Although Philips delayed fulfillment until November 2019, if they had met that deadline, the country would have had plenty of ventilators when the coronavirus epidemic began in March 2020.

However, the Trump administration granted Philips three extensions.

“On January 21, 2020, when the first coronavirus case was reported in the United States,” Philips contacted the Trump administration about expediting the distribution of ventilators under its current agreement. The Trump administration ignored the opportunity and did not respond to Philips’ offer for six weeks. “

When Peter Navarro – Presidential Assistant, Director of Trade and Manufacturing Policy – and other White House officials negotiated a new deal with Philips, they rescinded the terms of the Obama era and agreed to pay almost five times the price. Set under those terms.

Philips sold the ventilators to other buyers for less than $ 39,327 per unit, while the Trump administration ended up paying $ 50,000 per unit.

“The documents show that the administration accepted Philips’ first offer without negotiating a lower price,” the report said.

Ventilators may come on after being vaccinated for illness. During this time, the U.S. Over 156,000 coronavirus deaths.

The revelation comes a day after the Vanity Fair revealed that Trump had scrapped a national testing plan for the White House epidemic, believing the coronavirus would mostly kill voters in blue states and that the administration could blame Democratic governors.
